A traditional Jewish home in Red Village (Gyrmyzy gesebe), where mountain Jews reside compactly in Guba, will be restored with the support of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation.
The project “Restoration of the traditional Jewish home in Red Village” is being carried out together with the embassies of the United States of America and Israel in Azerbaijan, and the Centre for Mountain Jews Legacy.
Department director of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation, MP Soltan Mammadov, head of the Guba district Executive Authority Ziyaddin Aliyev, ambassador of the United States of America to Azerbaijan Earle Litzenberger, Israeli ambassador to Azerbaijan George Deek and resident of Red Village Nisim Nisimov spoke at the event organized in connection with the launch of the project in Guba, May 23.
Department director of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation, MP Soltan Mammadov noted that since the very first day of its establishment, the Foundation has implemented numerous projects associated with brotherhood of different religions and unity and friendship of peoples both in Azerbaijan and beyond its boundaries, along with promotion of the history of Azerbaijan, its culture, and national values.
“The Heydar Aliyev Foundation has participated in the restoration of over ten churches in various regions of France, including the Strasbourg Cathedral. Moreover, a lot of work has been done in the restoration of catacombs within the cooperation between Azerbaijan and Vatican, which was a great novelty for the Muslim world. Following the Foundation’s initiative, restoration of a series of religious temples was performed in the country. Within the framework of cooperation with the Israeli Embassy, the Heydar Aliyev Foundation has implemented such projects as the opening of an education centre for Jewish children, repair of a synagogue, and, recently, restoration of a Jewish cemetery in Muju village of Ismailli”, - said Soltan Mammadov.
Soltan Mammadov noted that the project “Restoration of traditional Jewish home in Red Village”, implemented with participation of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation, was very important from the point of view of tourism, and that in future, it will be presented as an example of hospitality in Azerbaijan.
“First Vice-president of the Republic of Azerbaijan, President of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation Mehriban Aliyeva has always paid special attention to the implementation of all these projects. She has provided great support to lifestyles of ethnic minorities living in Azerbaijan enjoying equal rights, their becoming an integral part of the Azerbaijani society, and benefiting from the interreligious policy pursued by the state.” – noted the MP.
Ambassador of the United States of America to Azerbaijan Earle Litzenberger expressed his gratitude for participating in the project, which would be an obvious example of a cultural diversity in Azerbaijan, attracting the attention of tourists.
“I feel proud to say that USA and Israel, as friends of Azerbaijan, are supporting this country’s history, its magnificent nature, and nice people. I thank the Heydar Aliyev Foundation for the works they have done both in Azerbaijan and outside the country, on the global scale.” – said the ambassador.
Israeli ambassador to Azerbaijan George Deek thanked the parties who are supporting the unique project being implemented in Guba: “Red Village is a community where Jews and Azerbaijanis live together. Today, we are witnessing an historic day. A traditional Jewish home will be restored here. There is no analogue of the community living in Red Village in the world. Members of the community living here wish that investments be attracted to this settlement, ensuring the improvement of economic condition here. I want to thank all the parties who are providing their support to these works.” – noted G. Deek. At the end of the event, information was provided in connection with the projects’ implementation.
