The Heydar Aliyev Center was established pursuant to Decree No.1886 signed by Ilham Aliyev, the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, on December 29, 2006. The Center shall conduct consistent activities in the field of profound research and broad promotion of the nation-building philosophy and Azerbaijanism ideology of Heydar Aliyev, the recognized national leader of the Azerbaijani people, as well as encourage studies in the Azerbaijani history, language, culture, national and spiritual values.
The Statute of the Heydar Aliyev Center was approved following the Decree by the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan signed on October 8, 2012. According to the Statute, the Center’s major areas of concentration are the following:
- Broad promotion of the nation-building philosophy, Azerbaijanism ideology and legacy of Heydar Aliyev, the recognized national leader of the Azerbaijani people, conduct of various events in this realm;
- Arrangement of events and drafting proposals aiming at the protection of the legacy of Heydar Aliyev, the recognized national leader of the Azerbaijani people, in science, education, culture, health, sports, environment, economics, etc;
- Introduction and promotion of the Azerbaijani history, language and other national and spiritual assets throughout the world;
- Support to and development of various fields of science, culture, health, sports, environment and economics;
- Arrangement of conferences, symposia, museums, exhibitions, expositions and other events related to the fields of the Center’s activities;
- Development of cooperation with other agencies in the field of studies of Heydar Aliyev’s legacy;
The foundation of the Heydar Aliyev Center’s building was laid on September 10, 2007, and the official opening ceremony held on May 10, 2012, the day of Heydar Aliyev’s 89th anniversary.
One of the internationally recognized architectural works, the building of the Heydar Aliyev Center has become a signature landmark of modern Baku due to its innovative and cutting-edge design.
